Dressed in the sober “uniform” of the British businessman — bowler hat, black suit, gloves and cane — George, Paul, John and Ringo almost look like card-carrying members of the London Stock Exchange. It’s their expressions that belie the truth: Harrison’s broad grin, McCartney’s impish nudge and a wink, Lennon’s intense gaze, Starr’s hint of an impetuous smile. Dignity is soon to be discarded in favor of mischief and fun. What a paradox they were! What a phenomenon!
