BOCA RATON, Fla., May 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Norton Herrick, Chairman and CEO of The Herrick Company, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investment firms, is headed to Churchill Downs once again, seeking his second Kentucky Derby crown with thoroughbred ‘Tapwrit.’ Herrick, along with Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, is a partner in the prized thoroughbred.
Herrick has made five previous trips to the “Run for the Roses” in the last 10 years, with powerhouse ‘Animal Kingdom’ winning in 2011. Herrick’s 2016 effort ‘Destin,’ placed 6th and lost the Belmont Stakes by a nose. His other thoroughbreds in the Derby have included ‘Danza’ (2014), ‘Went the Day Well’ (2012) and ‘Visionaire’ (2008).
‘Tapwrit,’ trained by leading American thoroughbred trainer, Todd Pletcher, recently won the Tampa Bay Derby in a record-setting performance. Highly ranked jockey Jose Ortiz will ride ‘Tapwrit’ in the Derby this weekend. The thoroughbred was sired by the hottest stallion in the country, ‘Tapit.’ ‘Tapit’ also sired 2014 Belmont winner ‘Tonalist’ and 2016 winner ‘Creator.’
“I’m both honored and excited to have my sixth horse in the Kentucky Derby in the last 10 years,” said Herrick. “Tapwrit is a very special horse from an equally special lineage, and I think our prospects are good for Saturday.”
The Herrick Company and its subsidiaries have completed income property transactions, including green power plants and hospitals, totaling more than $5 billion. The company’s entertainment division, Herrick Entertainment, is a film, television and theater financing and production company responsible for such award-winning projects as Lone Survivor starring Mark Wahlberg, and Tony Award-winning Broadway productions including Waitress, Pippin and Hair.
